Jade plant flower

Flower of the jade plant Crassula ovata. This is the first time this plant is blooming. I rescued two dessicated leaves that were sprouting tiny plants on a shelf in a basement window when we first moved into the house. The leaves apparently had dropped off the plant and were on the bare wood shelf. Those first two plants were given away as gifts but this is another plant from the leaves of the first ones.

I love the pink pistils.

Just beautiful Ki. So are the anemones below. I just planted anemone bulbs this fall but will have to wait till next year to get my reward. Just beautiful

Hi Ruth,
If you planted bulbs they must be the De Caen variety of anemones. Anemone Coronaria? I got some as a gift for buying some bulbs one year but for some reason they didn't do very well. Only one came up the second year and none at all this year. Maybe I just didn't have the right soil preparation for them? Thanks for stopping by.

Those are just so cute. I like the little pink pistils on them also. I love dainty flowers.

Hi Vanillalotus,
I've seen jade plant flowers before but I never looked at them closely. That' the really nice thing about digital cameras and their ability to take macro photos - who knew the pistils were pink? Now that I have the means to examine them more closely I purposely look for dainty flowers to see what I've been missing. Thanks for your comment.

very nice.

This is one of those plants that I don't really want but when I see pics of the blooms the plant collecting elf inside me gets greedy.

Hi Mr. Brownthumb,
I just couldn't let those two tiny plants die so I potted them up and they just kept growing and producing more baby plants from the dropped leaves. The first two plants were given away as gifts and so were about ten of the baby plants they produced. The one flowering is a product of that first batch of babies. They are kind of a mindless and carefree plant but nice to have indoors during the winter.

What a great story! I had a jade plant years ago but do not remember what happened to it. I think it is an accomplishment to get one to bloom.

Hello Iowagardeningwoman,
The jades proved they were tough plants needing only the barest amount of care to thrive. My kind of plant. Although technically they are clones, I guess the plants still have to be big enough to support flowers. I believe this plant is 3 years old now so hopefully it will bloom again next year. Thanks for your kind comment.
