Crocosmia

Only this one Crocosmia out of more than a dozen survived the winter and is blooming now.

We have the Crososmia "Lucifer" here for about 10 years, and it loves us. It sure is easy to see that is a cousin to the gladiola
I like the laziness of the sword like leaves as it rustles in the wind, and of course the Humming birds adore it….

Hi Deemom,
I wish we had hummingbirds here. Unfortunately we see a bird a year and it doesn't stay around very long. We must be right at the edge of hardiness for Crocosmias. We've planted them for several years and never had them return except for this one lone specimen. Lucifer sounds like a name for this one too since it is a bright red orange. We also have Acidenthera another glad relative but it has yet to bloom. Thanks for the comment.

My Crocosmia 'Lucifer' didn't survive the winter this year, either. I've planted a yellow one, which is actually a light orange, and I hope that one will be back next spring.

My Acidanthera hasn't bloomed yet either. It seems really slow this year, but I did get them potted up later, too.

I just saw one of our Acidentheras blooming but the flowers weren't as nice as when we first grew the plants from bulbs. I guess we don't really know how to grow them well enough.

We haven't had very good luck with the Crocosmias either. They seem to be very iffy plants even when we had a fairly mild winter last year.
